Hey guys, welcome back to the blog.
Today I thought I would share my trick for re-using old t-shirts or scraps of fabric to make a really easy, very trendy, hair accessory.
We all know full well that the 80’s are back, with their dad shoes and Varsity Blues aesthetic- and we’re not complaining. So why not hop onto the scrunchie bandwagon? I love them because they’re a cute way to accessorise and they’re better for your hair than other hair-ties.
But, because they’re so trendy, they can be pricey. So I thought I would rather let you in on my secret of having an endless supply of scrunchies of all sorts of colours and patterns- without having to fork over too much cash.
All you’ll need;
- An old t-shirt or fabric shorts OR an old scrap of fabric.
- A hair tie
- fabric glue/super glue
- scissors

Step 1:
Measure out your fabric; dimensions depend on how voluminous you want the scrunchie to be. If you want a really big and puffy one: 50cm x 10cm. But if you want a more dainty, subtle scrunchie then I would say about 40cm x 7cm. Bear in mind that there is going to be about 0.5cm fold in on each edge where the fabric will join.
Now cut this out.
Step 2:
Glue the two shorter lengths (10cm or 7cm edges) together- making sure to fold them inwards so the tops of the fabric are connected- you don’t want a ragged edge.
Step 3:
Once the edges are dry, position your hair tie. You want it to run along the middle of the fabric, with the topside of the print facing inwards (see image for clarification).

Step 4:
Join the edges together, the same way you did the shorter lengths. Fold about 0.25cm in of each edge, add glue, and join the two folded edges to create the same inwards seam. Continue this all along the fabric.
Step 5:
Wait for it to dry and then you have your fabulous new scrunchie!

I hope you guys found this helpful- and if you use this tutorial to make your own fabulous scrunchies- please post pictures and tag me in insta (@kirstemma), I would love to see your recreations.
Pop by next Friday for a fabulous look-book using a wardrobe staple, and a juicy review on a trend we’re still deciding on.
